Help With Dual Boot

Go to solution Solved by _ASSASSIN_,

Si, I checked here for Ubuntu download: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Which one do I coose? The 1st or the 2nd one?

I'd go the first one, but if you want the features, second one

Hello Folks!

So, I recently installed Linux on my old Laptop, and was amazed by the performance, and the design.

Now, I would love to use Linux on my main system as my main OS. (Since I don't really play a lot of games anymore.)

First, what Linux/Ubuntu would you recommend?

How do I setup dual boot?

And for last, do I need special drivers, for my Nvidia card? Are there even Nvidia drivers for it?

Thanks alot! :)

there are lots of distros you can run, I'd recommend Elementary and Ubuntu for basic users just getting into linux.

to set up a dual boot, you are going to have to partition you disc.

Nvidia will release linux drivers soon, If they don't have them out already.

Can I use the option withing Windows, or do I need to use the option with the CD to partition?

EDIT: Oh and would you even recommedn doing what I plan to do?^^

EDIT 2: And btw, what do you mean by basic Linux users? won't I have all the options, with another distro?

get a 3rd party app that will do it. Those OS's are inherently basic, it's just really easy to navigate and use. I doubt you actually know the interworkings of the OS to really use something much more advanced. Those OS's are user friendly

For partitioning? anything you recommend?

And would you recommend SteamOS in it's current state?

EDIT: sorry for the ton of questions, I just want to make sure. ^^

it's perfectly fine. I'd give a big NO to SteamOS. if you want to use it for daily things and not purely as a gaming console, which the SteamOS is intended for, no. Use the 2 I mentioned for using it as a computer.
