The issue i am having is my mother board is only picking up five of my six SATA hard drives and ssd's, i have swapped SATA power and SATA data cables and still not detecting a random drive,

My question is, what is a cheap, reliable drive for raid and backup storage,

Is the missing drive consistently on the same port? If so, the port is dead.

To answer your other question, there is no cheap AND reliable. It's either/or in the storage world. The most reliable drives are the WD Gold series, also the most expensive SATA drives for sale. WD Red is a decent middle ground between cost and reliability, so that'd be my pick. Seagate Ironwolf drives also qualify although they're still pretty new and unproven. Testing those as we speak in my NAS.
