Hello everyone,

I am currently rocking an AMD Phenom x6 1090T on the Crosshair 4 Formula, with dual 6970s in CrossfireX.

I was wondering if it would be worth the cost to upgrade to an Intel platform such as 2500k or a 3570k, I feel that maybe the CPU is holding back my graphics cards (although have nothing to compare them to). With more and more games becoming highly threaded would it be a side grade? I know that I would obviously get a improvement in FPS in games like, GTA4, Stalker, Crysis 1, but is it that much of a difference? I would love to hear your opinions or personal experiences.

ALSO one last thing, does anyone know if the FX-8350 would work in the Crosshair 4? I know that some 890FX boards support it and I know that it supports the 8140 (As Linus has one on this board for his offsite backup).

Thanks in advance :)

Yes with a bios update it does work: http://www.overclock.net/t/1333291/fx-8350-works-in-the-crosshair-iv-extreme-bios-ver-3027

This may not be the answer you want to hear but you probably won't notice much of a difference and it really is up to you if it is worth the extra money to get a minor gain. I wouldn't bother changing to a 2500K since it would be relatively the same cost of a 3570K give or take a few dollars; if you decided to switch go with newer.

Obviously just upgrading to the 8350 would give a minor performance gain but I honestly don't think it would be worth it. From my understanding the difference between the 890FX and the 990FX is some minor optimization, slightly faster "hyperthreading" (whatever the AMD equiv. is), slightly better power management and SLI support. Would these differences be really worth the extra money? I would say no since depending on the application you are using the 1090T or the 8350 have performances differences.

Without getting into a long story about my setup, I bought the Crosshair Formula V and waited for the 8150 to release and was disappointed and decided to get the 1090T instead. I've thought about swapping to a 8350 lately but I doubt I can really justify the cost since there is very little to gain in my opinion (when you compare the cost versus the gain)
