Failed update botched pc

Go to solution Solved by Freewill234,

Truth be told I've yet to reinstall from a usb device or have a need to erase partitions (format disk?) any tips to help a novice

Windows 10

5700hq, 8gb ram, 970m

I tried to apply the intel kernel patch, which failed and the resulting auto repair was unable to fix it after several attempts. I decided to reinstall windows while retaining my personal files. So I waited for the reinstall and found that all my prior disk usage was still being used. It also turns out that I cannot reinstall GeForce experience for video driver updates because and instance is already running. In addition it is taking my pc nearly and hour to just restart "getting pc ready. Don't turn off your computer" being displayed. This turned from an annoyance to a larger issue. It doesn't appear my computer is applying windows updates either. Thank you for any help
