Why does my computer randomly shut down then turn itself back on and it is not an update

We're gonna need some specs here and a better explanation of what's going on. Does Windows shut down safely or does everything just turn off suddenly?

Is there any specific task that you notice when it shuts off?

is it a specific time period after turning on, like maybe when a certain application starts running in the background?

steam and spotify start up thats it

Does Windows display anything other than an unexpected shutdown in Reliability Monitor? Have you overclocked any of your components? Is your computer plugged directly into the wall, a surge protector, or an extension cord? It's kinda hard to work off of the scraps of information you're giving us.

its plugged in to a extension cord.

it says windows did not shut down properly

Anyway ...first thing you should do : Enter BIOS and restore defaults and tryout. Check cables from psu. Check RAM sticks.

Try plugging it directly into the wall, or use a surge protector. Using an extension cord with a PC can be an electrical hazard in many cases, especially if you have more than one item plugged into it. If you wish to continue using the extension cord, make sure that is not coiled anywhere and no weight is put on top of it.

A PC will suddenly die if its starved for power.

It may not get you anywhere, but it's worth a try. Other than that, you should try reseating your memory, making sure that both sticks are in the same colored slots.

If it's that new, RMA that shit.

 

Failing that, boot into safe mode and open eventvwr.msc and check the system logs for any entries with the correct time stamps, it should give you an indication.
