Yo!

Starting to put together a decent sized collection of flacs, and recently picked up foobar for playback. I heard this was a a more accurate program to use over the likes of vlc.

I'm keeping my music library on a samba share and streaming the flacs to my desktop over ethernet. Just wondered if there was any config the audio gurus would recommend which may improve quality? I've never had a problem with playing the flacs over the network, but foobar seems to be pretty configurable - I dont want to be missing out on any tricks.

AFAIK, the only issue you could run into simply by using networked storage, is if you can't transfer the file quick enough. But that would result in stuttering playback rather than loss of quality. So there's no need for any special settings/mods to get 'better' playback.

If there were settings or mods to gain measurably 'better' playback quality then it makes no sense to have these disabled or not part of the default install, especially since audio playback is a very trivial task for any remotely recent hardware so there'd be little impact on system performance.

If this is bullshit then i'd be interested to know why.

ooh ok cheers, have you tried it? did you notice a diff?

I use it every time I use Foobar2000.

It's honestly been so long since I began using it, so I don't rightly know if there's an actual difference.

But it's free and easy to setup, so it's worth a try.
