Can a Non-retina Macbook Pro get 3440x1440?

I'm looking to upgrade my monitor for home/work. I have a beefed up early 2012 non-retina macbook pro that i want to get an external monitor for. I work on a 27" iMac at work, but want more real estate at home. I also have a PC build from 2013 that I'd like to hook up to it when I have PC-specific work to do. Can that macbook pro handle the 3440x1440p with a displayport to mini displayport cable, or am I wasting my time? If it can, does anyone have a recommendation of monitor to get at this size/resolution?

16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
