Never tried this, but it should not affect performance as generally proof of work algorithms use very little PCIe bandwidth, tons of people run their cards on x1 to x16 adapters with no performance loss.

There might be a difference in power consumption because the eGPU enclosure has its own AC/DC power supply, and there might be the risk of said power supply heating up too much because it might not be designed to withstand full load 24/7. That I would be weary of.

I suppose though, that you can use an ATX PSU externally, jump the PS_ON pin on the ATX connector, and use that to feed the GPU's connectors but I'm not sure that it would work flawlessly or on the first trial.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Practically no difference between mining from a PCIe x16 slot. You're not transferring any data between your gpu and other components (namely your cpu). Only things to be aware of though are noise and heat. And maybe power draw depending on how many egpu's you got.

print "Hello World!" ("Hello World!")
