Should I update my bios??

Go to solution Solved by ShoByte,

Where are you finding the bios update for the board. HP's website doesn't have a BIOS listed for your system. I don't see it with selecting your system model. This is why I don't buy pre built machines, they are horrible for support. They don't even have the BIOS CPU support list.

That processor isn't listed as a supported chip.

  • Core 2 Duo E8xx0 (Wolfdale core) (65W)
  • Core 2 Duo E7xx0 (Wolfdale core) (65W)
  • Pentium Dual Core E5xx0 (Wolfdale core) (65W)
  • Celeron Dual Core E1xx0 (Conroe core) (65W)
  • Celeron 4xx series (Conroe core) (35W)

You'd think it'd be fine if it supports the newer 8xxx series.

I would never boot any CPU with out the cooler on it.

The main question is where you are finding the bios update download.

Hey guys I am using Intel core 2 duo E7500 on my PC with GT 1030 and I just bought a Core 2 quad q6600 to upgrade my PC. I was thinking if I had to update my bios before installing it...

My chipset is g41 express chipset and its bios version is 6.05..Please let me know whether I have to update it or not...

My full PC specs

CPU - Intel core 2 duo E7500 (which I will be replacing with core 2 quad q6600)

GPU- NVIDIA GT 1030

RAM- 4 gb ddr3 1333mhz

OS- Windows 8.1 64 bit

That's your chipset not the board model.

Gigabyte MSI ASUS etc then the model to it.

Run cpu-z then tell us.

Here have a look

BIOS should only be flashed if somethings is wrong IMO.

Pre builts= sometimes have CPUs soldered in, was this checked before buying new one?

If you brick the board, replacing it will be next to impossible and such a waste since it's 775 and might not be standard size.

Put it in and try and boot it quickly and see what happens, you don't need to install the heatsink or anything to test.
