Hi,

I built my first PC a couple of years ago and I have been displeased with it's performance. I assume it is due to all the mistakes I have made along the way of building it. Anyway, I would like to upgrade the processor and motherboard but I am unsure on which is best. The main use of the pc will be gaming, maybe alittle streaming. I would like to spend about £300-450

I currently have a mess of a setup and cables everywhere:

i5-4460

gtx-970

micro atx motherboard (Unsure of the name can look up but want to replace)

12gb of RAM (I know, I'm sorry)

Any help/guidance to a better PC would be appreciated. Thanks.

What specifically are you displeased with?  Low FPS?  Long load times?  The wires and looks of it?

The 970 you have should be capable at 1080p and the 4460 isn't bad (though it might be the problem if FPS is the issue).

You should take a look at the i5 8600 and the i7 7700k. They both perform similarly, depends on what games you play. Both of them you will need new RAM since both Coffee Lake and Kaby lake use DDR4 RAM not DDR3 RAM that Haswell use.

You should also look at the ryzen 7 1700 and 1700X. the Ryzen 5 1600x would also be an upgrade, but you are buying a new motherboard, ram and CPU at this point you might as well pay the little extra and get the ryzen 7. maybe I don't know.

If you really don't have the money for any of those options then you can upgrade your CPU to a i7 4790k, You can reuse your motherboard and RAM which will save a lot of money, Your motherboard might need a BIOS update if its not H97 or Z97.

Thank you I will give it a look.
