I need help with my monitor and computer

I really need help, i accidentally hit CTRL + ALT + F8 when going for a combination on my keyboard and my screen has gone black and won't come back. I searched online and the only thing that I found was that the Windows Key + P should help but it did nothing to fix the problem. I tried to reboot my computer and still nothing.

Here are my specs:

CPU

Intel - Core i5-6400 2.7GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard

Gigabyte - GA-H170-GAMING 3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory

Team - Dark 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Storage

Kingston - SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Western Digital - AV-GP 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card

XFX - Radeon RX 470 4GB HS Triple X Video Card
Case

Corsair - SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply

Antec - 450W ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive

Asus - DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer

Monitor

Acer X163W b

I really need to get this fixed guys, I only have the one monitor and it is connected to the motherboards VGA graphics because it does not have an HDMI connection (the graphics card is out of the system currently). If someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

If so, you should be able to reset your display options from control panel, then reboot again.

If you happen to have another monitor (temporarily), you could try this:

Quote

What causes this is additional software that comes with the Intel Graphics chip. This software monitors for the Ctrl + Alt + F8 shortcut and then resets the display settings to a default value.

While the "Intel HD Graphics Control Panel" setup utility allows configuring keyboard shortcuts for other tasks, it does specifically say that you cannot change or disable the shortcut for the "reset settings" task.

The only way to disable this is by disabling the Windows Service installed by the Intel Software.

  1. Go to Windows Services list

  2. Find the "Service for Intel(R) HD Graphics Control Panel" service.

  3. Disable it (open it's properties, stop it AND make sure to set its' startup type to "Disabled")

  4. You may need to reboot the computer once.

Just a suggestion = Do wipe and reinstall window.

Of course if you have important documents this may not be an option
