Extreme ping spikes

I'm on ADSL internet and never had problems up until a week ago.

 

Since the Wi-Fi range is extremely bad I had to set up another modem on the 2nd floor of the house.

Whenever someone's using wi-fi my ping is fine, but when someone uses the DSL (cable connection) on the 2nd floor's PC my ping spikes high.

 

What is the cause of this? Using the wi-fi over a phone seems fine but using the 2nd pc (wired) lags my main router.

It sounds like the router is being overloaded with data.

 

Is your "second modem" just setup as a repeater? Or is it broadcasting a completely different subnet for your network?

It should be just a repeater. What's weird is that wi-fi has no effect while using cable internet destroys my ping.

Anyone know how to fix this? Should I purchase a new router?
