ISP router?

so im getting installed on my new condo, the isp said they are giving me a FiberHome dual band router. is it recommended to change my router to some other brand for example asus or zyxel?

I wouldn't bother in most cases. When people say that ISP provided routers are bad, they're normally talking about how the WiFi is bad, which is the access point part of the "router", not the router part itself. In most cases, the actual router part is as good as the aftermarket ones. The time you may want to replace it is if it's one that doesn't allow you to change settings that you want to. Some ISP provided units don't like letting you open ports and such. 

 

If you just want better WiFi, buying a dedicated access point rather than an entire new router is a better option.

If you want something that works, and which your ISP can support when you are having issues: keep it. If you have some expert-mode reasons for swapping, swap it. But considering you asked that question here: don't bother.

Agree with @Oshino Shinobu, wouldn't bother with a new router unless you experience problems with setup or performance issues. Some ISP provided routers are complete trash, but it varies a great deal.
