Ugrade Help

Hello All i need some help on what part to upgrade as i only can do maybe 1 part every 2 - 3 months as i am on disability and only can put aside about $100 a month so here is my pc set up so far.
 

CPU: i5-2500k 4.5Ghz
CPU Cooler : AIO Water Cooled
Mobo: GA-Z77X-UD3H
Ram :  4 x 4 GB DDR3 1866 Hyper X Black
PSU: Generic 500W
GPU: Strix 960 2gb

Out of what i have what should be the next upgrade for myself to do i have currently saved up around ( CDN $300 )

( friend of mine is selling his Strix 1060 3gb card should i just go with that ? )

any opinions would help ty

You should change the GPU. I've seen that 2500k is just 25-30% less powerful than 8600k. So that CPU could keep up with nowadays technology a little while. After that you'll have to change Mobo/CPU/RAM but you'll have to gather more money for that.

I guess your main purpose is playing, so.. 1920x1080 resolution?

 

A 1060 can give you a good performance boost, the 6gb version is better for the future but if you can find a 3gb for cheap and sell your 960 go for it.

 

Everything else is not really needed for gaming, so you should still be fine. If you anyway want to upgrade without doing everything new, you can get a h170/z170 with gen6 or 7 i5-i7 with ddr3 support, so you don't have to spend a lot for new memory.

okay thank you for the info for the GPU what would be a good upgrade lets say bang for buck as i am on a budget . lets say under $400 cdn  for gpu what is out there for that price range.
