I barely ever use my optical drive nowadays like most people I download most of my content and rarely purchase physical software. So I have started thinking about removing my optical drive from my computer and just buying an external one powered by usb.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions, tips on the subject. Cheers.

I would say that an external optical drive is a good option. You can use it with any computer you have, and it makes room for more 5.25" devices. I own an asus external optical drive and I love it. I've only used it a couple of times, but it's been good. Then only slight downside is the fact that it needs 2 USB's for more power, but it's not like you will be leaving it plugged in 24/7. I would definitely recommend buying one.
