I currently have a MSI Ghost Pro and I was thinking about buying a new laptop, but then realized its a bit too expensive for me. I am now wondering if I should get a eGPU. I need to know what eGPU case I should get, and also I am wondering if I should get a 1060 or 1070. Would the Performance Loss of an eGPU make a 1060 not beneficial?

Specs:

6700HQ

16GB RAM

970m 3GB

Thunderbolt 3

Thanks

actually a 1060 gets a lot more benefit than the 970m, mainly because it has a similar TDP to it's desktop variant. For instance, my 1070N runs at the same clocks to the desktop 1070 and that it has a bit more shaders it is actually faster.

as an eGPU, i've tested both the titan xp and vega fe. the PSU wasnt powerful enough for the vega fe overclocked as i got a good sample, but i can run superposition at 8k at 2 fps with a titan xp as an eGPU.

Still any eGPU is an improvement over mobile GPU variants. only the pascal laptops enjoy having the same GPUs as the desktop counterparts.
