Rendering with GPU issues with quality on 3DS Max

This is made for a friend, but i'll give all the details he's given me. So his complaint is that his quality drops like crazy when he has the GPU render the content versus having his CPU do it. Is there any way to fix this? He doesnt like the render times with his CPU. GPU is a 1080 and CPU is I believe a 1600x Ryzen and they are using V-ray 3.6
