mATX case ?

Go to solution Solved by airdeano,

Hey, I'm going to make a micro atx build I've had help for the components inside but I don't know which case to with or if you have any suggestions please say.

I'm stuck between the fractal arc mini R2 and corsairs 350D

kinda depends on what the future holds for upgrades (if any).

both are really good air-cooling cabinets. great cross-flow and CPU/I-O cooling.

storage would be arc mini as more SSD/HDD support over the 350D.

350D does have the aesthetics on its side with as larger window or no window option,

but front panel can get easily damaged or scratched. adding ODD or 5.25 support and

the front panel does look unfinished with no surround to clean the ODD area.

arc mini has roof filter support nothing for 350D (550D mod is doable).

if water cooling is possible, hands down arc mini. the ODD bays are removable, 350D

severe structure modding is necessary. no 360 roof support for 350D, the front radiator

placement on 350D is botched with raised pads that need sealing or removal. 350D is

a lil more spatially open and can be a blessing or curse.

as to construction, corsair did do some new stamping techniques and they are not of

the same Obsidian quality from years past, but to deliver a quasi-feature loaded case

some things had to sacrificed. the chassis is way too flimsy, removal of the HDD cage

does weaken the rigidity. the new implementation of the side-panels also does not

promote the strength of the chassis (easier to remove/replace). the rear i/o is pieced

and is very flexible, lending to vibrations. when they left the solid i/o stamping the

rare panel got way flimsy and felt like it was made of light gauge material.

i've got both and will build on the arc mini chassis for water cooling options.

I was in the same position as you. I went with the Arc mini and couldn't be happier, the amount of room for radiators and other goodies is astounding. The build quality is excellent( Not trying to undermine Corsair ).  If you plan on using a DVD drive in the 350D, or anything in the drive bay for that matter its not the most pleasant looking thing. corsair-obsidian-900d,C-E-380174-22.jpg

Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll be going with the arc mini then since i do want to water cool in the future. it seems like they both have the pros and cons as well, I wanted to go for the arc mini in the first place but wanted to get a second opinion :)

right-on.

and when you do the build, make a build log for others that might have a similar build in their future.
