A quick RAM question?

So i was out looking at some new RAM and a motherboard for my computer and i noticed that some motherboards say 128gb capatable but how is it possible if the max RAM stick(as far as i know) is 8gb and there are only 8 slots on a motherboard. I have read of people who have 128gb but how is it even possible. I know that you almost would never need that much RAM but im very curious as to how it is even possible.Any help would be appreciated thank you.

There are 16GB DIMMs you know.

You can find 16gb RAM sticks but there is ECC RAM, so, not for consumer level hardware, unless you got dual xeon's board

Also ECC is enterprise level but it can mean that it can be used for 24/7 use, so no shutting down the computer you want ECC RAM. But don't recommend anyways.
