Is a 1070 / 1070 Ti / 1080 worth buying in late 2017 or should I wait for something better that's just around the corner? I want to play some AAA games during the holidays (Live in Argentina), initially in 1080p but planning to buy a 1440p 165 Hz monitor later on.

It is worth buying at this moment. Get a 1070 or 1080 if you do decide to go this route.

The 1070, 1070Ti, and 1080 are all great cards for the price. There's also the fact that there will likely be holiday sales on them. But, if you already have a GTX 970 or GTX 980 and money is tight, then holding off for Volta might not be a bad idea.
