Hello, I wanted to boost my gaming performance, However, I only choose between two options.  One would be a intel i5 7500 core and the other would be 16GB 2400mhz DDR4 RAM.  My mother board can't use either, so which one should I get or is there better ones I should be looking into?

Sorry, my current system has a Intel Pentium G3258 3.20GHz CPU, 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, MSI GTX 970 GPU, H81M-E34 MotherBoard, and my case can only have a micro ATX or smaller.

If you didnt have the money to buy a new mobo and ram your best cpu upgrade would be the i5 4670 or i7 4770.

And just fyi upgrading to DDR4 ram won't help if you have a weak system.

DDR3 is still enough for now.

But if you want to build a new system tell us your budget and we will follow up. (follow up? ehh not sure if its the right word sorry english is not my native language)

Your mobo doesn't support ddr4 so if you want to do that you have to get a new mobo along with a new CPU...

And if you're getting the i5-7500, you'll need a new mobo AND the ram too since it doesn't support DDR3 (only DDR3L) https://ark.intel.com/products/97123/Intel-Core-i5-7500-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz

So basically neither one is a good choice you don't have the money...

The rest is basically what Hiya said.

ram is crazy overpriced right now, so if you can keep what you have right now please do xD

for example last year's black friday i bought some trident Z 2x8gb 3200mhz 16cas ram for 120$cad and today it's like 250$ or more.

also, you seems fucked up the motherboard side and will probably end up needing both ram and cpu.

My budget is about 300$-400$.  I'm fine with upgrading my motherboard.

Honestly an i7 4770 is more than enough for modern gaming i think its even better than i5 7500 for gaming and multitasking.

It will save you a lot of money you know.

Find a used  i7 4770 and use the rest of your money to buy a new gpu something like nvidia GTX 1060.

As for ram is so freakin expensive right now.

But if u still want to build a new rig an i5 8400+the cheapest micro atx mobo u can find+a decent memory at least 8GB would fit your budget.

dude you do realize. your motherboard takes ddr3 ram and not ddr4, and if you buy a new board that takes ddr4 it has to be lga1150 to fit your cpu and the i5 7600 is lga 1151... i don't know what you want to do but from what i conclude if you want to change something it's gonna be all of it.

just go for a better lga 1150 cpu.

search for this: xeon 1231v3 or I7-4790/k

the xeon is the same as the i7 mostly.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me so far.  So I guess the question know is should I get a knew CPU or GPU to help my computer performance?

U mean new CPU or GPU?

Well if u can find a used i7 4770 for a good price and still have the money left to buy GTX 1060 you will get more power out of it.

But if u dont have enough money 970 is still enough for modern AAA title just turn down graphical settings to get more fps.

I myself still using 970 referrence blower fan

You can get both. Get an used i7 that fits your mobo. I7 4790. And get a used 980.

970 is a decent card as long as you don't want to go into 4K gaming for standard HD (1080p) gaming is fine. Personally I'd upgrade the CPU and keep the rest of it as it is and save money to get a whole new rig later on.

Why don't you share with us the rest of the system specs ? (monitor, sound card etc). We may be able to help you even more.
