Earlier this month I posted an in-progress build post +an update post regarding my upcoming build using the phanteks evolv shift . Originally I planned on using the i5 8400 and the msi 1070 itx oc . However due to shortage of the coffeelake cpu plus a falling out with one of the shops I was going to make my purchases I changed to an Ryzen R5 1600 and the evga 1070 SC ACX3.0 Black. Today I got the cpu, mobo, ram and started building, took me from 1pm till 9.20pm .

Granted I am a novice builder and it was my first time building an itx, first time using a modular psu and to keep it short I will just say my previous build was an i5 3340, 4GB ram, gtx 560, recom powerengine 600 plus in a no-name regular case that I was reusing from the build before that (that was purchased in 2006) .

So finally done building , here are my thoughts:

This case is not beginner friendly. You have to follow the case manual or you will end up like me uninstalling everything and reinstalling to fit it all in . Don't loosely follow it like I did, I repeat. Follow the order like it is the law.

Cable management was another issue, the corsair sf450 cables were either too long or too short and they were hard enough to give me a , well, hard time bending them to make them fit . Worth mentioning both the psu cable ends and the mobo plugs were kinda tight so I was afraid when I had to pull them back out that I may use too much force.

The magnetic cover I couldn't make it close because the 24pin and the front(back?) usb 3.0s cable was too big and the position of the pins on the ab350 fatal1ty itx gaming a/c by asrock was in the middle so I couldnt manage the length well enough. Also the h80i v2 aio's tubes are a bit too long so the side panel was hard to close (at least they keep the magnetic cover looking somewhat closed) , I had to watch kyle-bitwit's video to see how he fit it even though i could not fit it the same way he did.

The graphics card was chosen with price and length in mind, i managed to fit both of the h80i v2's fans one between radiator and gpu and one on the underside of the case.

Furthermore the "tool-less" brackets for the ssd's rest on rubber washers that for me didnt have enough clearance between them and the gpu extension (by the way it too was tough to bend ) so it was annoying whenever I had to remove and reinstall them.  I had to bend the psu sata cable ends completely or it wouldn't fit and I couldn't install the ssd bottom-up on the bracket because the screw holes did not align . I however didn't not have a hard time installing my HDD nor its sata and power cables, Using an HDD means less space to hide away cables.

All in all it was exhausting yet a very rewarding experience because I learned a lot. It is silent , at least on idle-web browsing (the h80i v2's fans pur like kitten) .

PS: I installed the h80i v2's fans with the arrows pointing up so that means I got a push/pull intake from the bottom right?  I installed the included phanteks fan as shown in the manual as an exhaust ( so far cool air comes out)

-moved to build logs-

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
