So it's that time of the year, it's near Christmas and i'm looking to get myself a upgrade.

My current setup is OK with games but the frame drops especially with newer titles are a pain.

Current specs:

i5 3570k (4.4ghz)

8GB of corsair vengence DDR3

GTX 970

I'm thinking of getting myself a Intel Core i7-7700K which would mean me changing my motherboard and ram but is it worth it for the performance I would get?

Is it more worth upgrading my graphics card first and then think about my CPU later on?

I'm just trying to get some opinions so I can best spend my money.

I can spend max £650ish.

Thank you.

I’d focus on a GPU upgrade, maybe something crazy like a 1080 and then upgrade your CPU later.

Thank you, it's a complete pain though because I know eventually Ill have to blow a bunch for a new cpu because the i5 will bottleneck the shit out of a 1080 right?

Yeah sorry, this leaves me stuck dude. I just don't know what to do.

Would you guys recommend I just stick with what I've got till I've got the money to upgrade everything? Or should I get the 1080 and wait till I can afford a new CPU etc?

I'd get a 1060 6GB or used 980 Ti  I'm still rocking a 4th gen i5 with an AMD 7950. Which will be replaced soon.

If you're going to upgrade the CPU anyway, along with the DDR3, then start there... decide on your new CPU, RAM, Mobo etc, then see what you have left and work it out. Always better to be patient and start from the base up.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

hmm, that's a nice way to put it. I feel like that i7-7700K will last my some years anyway so It's just about waiting till I get a new graphics card I guess :/

Yeah gaming primarily and general use.

Same. You do not need an i7. Have a look at the deals that are on right now for the new 8th gen Intel i5 and Ryzen 5 CPU's. (8400 i5 my weapon of choice)

i7 is really overkill unless you are doing serious multitasking utilising all the cores and hyper-threading etc.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

I feel like it would be a waste of money not going in on a i7 since they're much cheaper atm on amazon. (£270 for the i7 7700k right now)

I wish there was a definitive answer but  whatever I do I don't think it'll be perfect till I save some more.

Put that money into the GPU. Seriously.

Yeah it will bottleneck bad. A new GPU will give you the best performance now, but you will definitely need to upgrade the CPU.

I've thrown something together for you as a rough build going on the fact you are supplying the case, storage, peripherals, monitor etc.
