Hi folks,

So I just ordered some new parts for a new build which is this currently:

CPU: i7-7700k
MOBO: Asus Maximus IX Hero
GPU: Asus GTX 1060 Strix OC 6GB
RAM: G-Skill Trident Z RGB 16gb Cas 14

New System: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/J3bY4C (I already have most of this i just need Case,  NVME SSD & PSU)

But I can't make my mind up on which case to get, I have a shortlist which I'd like some advice on and also some suggestions would be awesome.

  My Main requirements are:
• Must fit a Corsair H100i GTX
240mm radiator at the Top panel.
• Must have nice Airflow as I'll be overclocking
• Tempered Glass/Plexiglass
• Standard ATX but not that important.

(Optional)
• USB 3.0 Type C front panel would be
  great !
• RGB Fans prfferrably programmable
• White
• Dust filters where possible/decent head room.

My budget is £180 max.

Phanteks Eclipse P400s Tempered Glass
Phanteks Pro M Tempered Glass

NZXT S340 Elite
Corsair Crystal 570x RGB
Corsair Air 540
THERMAL TAKE View 71 TG RGB
Corsair Carbide 600c

Gearing more towards the Phanteks Pro M/NZXT S340 Elite.

Thanks in advance :)

Did you have a previous thread? Because Kaby Lake is dead...And you would have been far better off with a Ryzen CPU and a 1070/ti/Vega 56...

In any event I would highly suggest returning that monitor and getting a 1440p 144hz IPS free-sync display instead for not much more, IPS is going to be better for daily use.

To answer your question, Meshify C or Master Case 5, because front mesh intake

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Yes i posted it twice by accident and it merged the message so i deleted the message as not to confuse. Ryzen IPC are not good enough compared to Kaby lake for gaming i've already researched this but hopefully Ryzen 2 will shine. I already own an Acer Predator 144Hhz G-sync panel & a GTX 1060.

I've been using a Fractal Arc Midi for about 5 years good case although i'd like to see what other companies have on offer and one of the feet broke off within a couple of weeks so i was not happy with that.

That Master Case 5 looks really cool i'll look into it thanks for the suggestion :)

The main point was you totally shoulda gone Coffee Lake if you weren't going Ryzen, likely the i7 8700, also you're going to want to delid the i7 7700K, you get your best temps that way for 5ghz

In a basic summation if Ryzen is doing 100fps in the average AAA game, Coffee Lake is doing 120+fps, not sure it's worth the extra price. GN did a whole thing on it

They also did a case round up

I've looked into the new Coffee Lake 8700k and it costs £120-150 more than the 7700k with +15% IPC i think it was? also the Z370/Ram are another £200 and i'm not willing to spend that much for such a small gain as i will be hoping to get 5Ghz on the 7700k. The thing with Ryzen i know it's future proofing for a few years with the AM4 support but until we see what Ryzen 2 has to offer Intel is still king for gaming and that's the main thing i'll be using this machine for.

Delidding i don't think i've got the b***s to even attempt it as i've read a few stories of people bricking their chips lol.

It's fairly safe if you have a tool, but it's very highly recommended for the 7700K if you're going for high speeds

it's not an IPC gain at all really, it's those 2 extra cores that make it easily worth it.I only really recommend the i7 8700(non K) though, as it's pretty much good enough.

Like if you aren't saving money with Ryzen, but you aren't getting the actual best, it's just a strange choice to me to buy Kaby Lake at this point.

PCgamer has an average fps thing to sum it up, some games really like the extra cores

All depends on the game really, but like i said i'll be mainly gaming on it and i don't want to pay the price tag on 8th gen cpu/ram/mobo as i don't think it's worth it atm.

I'm not sure you're thinking ahead man, Ryzen brought 8 cores to the mainstream Coffee Lake is likely to follow suit with 8 cores and a Z390 chipset, game devs finally have incentive to prioritize utilizing a lot more threads.

Ass Creed Origins even makes use of Threadripper up to 12 cores. Granted that's a terrible optimized game. in any event. 5a1bc940bef00_AssCreedOriginsCPU.png.66ceb9c2127de5612c55bfd956453ebb.png

Yeah you're right i'm probably going to shoot myself in the foot in a years time for only going with a quad core, although hardly any games even utilize the extra threads so hopefully these game devs will pull their fingers out and it'll work out better if not i don't mind upgrading again in 3 years.

By that time hopefully Ryzen is 6 cores per CCX with 12 core CPUs hitting near 5ghz.

Thanks for your replies I'll certainly be attempting to delid the cpu if I hit anything over 70c at <1.4v 4.9GHz+.

That gamers nexus video comparing all the case thermals has helped me a bunch in deciding what to go for, I'm going to do 1 more day of researching and wait for more responses here and elsewhere before I go ahead and buy the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M TGE :) ?

That one looks pretty solid, at least they put some mesh on the front.

Would not buy a case that had a totally blocked front intake like the H500P out of the box.

Yep I was utterly disappointed with the h500p I thought that would be my next case few months back but the amount of plastic they used for one and the price is ridiculous lol.

So I ordered my case btw and last few components for the build, went with this beauty Phanteks Pro M Tempered Glass Special Edition sooo excited now to put it all together when it arrives, my first build in 5 years ?.
