Websites Not Loading Without https://www.

Hi peeps, recently my computer has been acting strangely whenever I have my vpn turned on. I use Astrill, and whenever it is on, websites will not load unless I type https://www. with the address bar. for example, google.com won't redirect to https://www.google.com automatically. It's probably something DNS related, but things work fine whenever the vpn is off (Aside from not being able to access google/youtube at all in China). I have noticed the same thing for both my school Macbook pro, and my home rig, yet non of my classmates experience the issue even when they are on the same networks as I am. What could be causing this? My default browser is google chrome, but the problem exists on all other browsers.

Thanks in advance

i think it's trying to find a local address.

Like how before (many years ago) you could search your local machine through a web browser. You had to specifically tell it that you wanted to connect to the web by typing www.

Check your VPN settings.

It's not a race to the bottom.
