Hi guys.

This is my current build, with the keyboard and the thermal paste.

I have been debating about the processor, PSU and ram.

Should I go with an i5-7600K, this one (whenever it is here again, or would a i5-8400 be good for it?

Also, is a DDR4-3000 is okay, or should I go with lower speed?

550W - 650W is more than enough psu for the build.

Thanks! I updated the list on the first post. Now, I've been told that the motherboard I have now is not good for the i5-7600K. Any recommendations on that? Also, how much performance would I be able to increase with the fan I included?

I was recommended this one, but it is quite pricey, so I was wondering if I would need that much increase.

If you plan to overclock the i5-7600K you will need to use a z270 motherboard. But I would suggest going with the latest generation hardware.

Just to understand, why would you recommend the i5-8400 over the 7600K?

  1. The i5-8400 has six cores with the same or better performance than a stock i5-7600K in gaming. https://www.techspot.com/review/1502-intel-core-i5-8400/.
  2. I5-8400 is latest cpu generation.
  3. Better than the i5-7600K in highly multithreaded environments.

The i5-7600K can be overclocked if one is willing to invest in a decent cpu cooler. An overclocked cpu would perform better in some games than the i5-8400.

So if I went with my current cooler, you would say the 8400 is better? And what if I went with the other I linked before?

The Hyper 212 Evo should allow some overclocking of an i5-7600K. But overall, I still think the i5-8400 is overall a better choice. The H100i v2 is a high performance cpu cooler. It should allow for an excellent overclock of an i5-7600K. The i5-8400 would still be better at some things, but the i5-7600K would do noticeably better in many games and other lightly threaded applications.
