I recently finished a build for my grandpa, but he refuses to upgrade his windows from xp to a newer version. When i plug in his HDD to the new build in order to move the OS and programs onto the new SSD and try to boot from the HDD the computer goes into an infinite reboot loop and boots normally from a windows 10 usb.

The specs are

Gigabyte - GA-Z270M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

8gb DDR4

240gb 2.5in 850 evo ssd

Corsair 450W 80+ Bronze

Audigy 2 sound blaster

Kabylake I5 740

The Hdd is running widows xp

here is the BDOS screen

Any help would be appreciated

I can guarantee you that Windows XP doesn't have drivers for ANY of that hardware. Also, WinXP is only 32 Bit so even if it did have support for DDR4, it wouldn't use more than 4 GB.

Windows XP will not run on that system. He has to use a modern OS to use modern hardware.

I know it’s not taking advantage of the components but I just need to get it barley working for a few years until he doesn’t need it anymore and then il pop in a nice gpu and have a nice low end gaming pc

i was thinking of running xp in a vm if I can’t get it running natively.

The problem is driver support. The OS will not run natively because neither Microsoft nor the hardware manufacturers support XP anymore. You can run XP in a VM, but that still means your grandpa will have to use Win10 just to even get that far. Honestly, I would install 10 and customize the crap out of the Start Menu and walk him through what's new. Unless you can salvage his old hardware and just refurb the old machine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Good luck.
