HELP! installing 1080ti

Im installing my 1080ti in a x399 mobo, ive lined it up to the lane i push it in. Im not hearing any audible click but the dim slot tab is closed and then the cards metal lip that sits over the IO shield wont line up with the screw holes. i dont want to fuck it up please help
