Im currently looking for a external ssd, im a complete noob but ive read that external ssds have a slower reading spead then internal ones? Is that true? Want to use it the same way as an internal one but i dont have enough space to get one. Any downside a external ssd has? Would use the usb slot i guess? dont know which one i have but i assume 2.0^^ Sorry for the lack of knowledge lol

Yes they will have slower speeds. sata 3 is faster the USB 3. Any form of external drive will suffer from more wear and tear then internal drives, the constant unplugging and plugging in don't help, and typically they will go through a lot more power on and off cycles then internal drives. They will either use USB 2.0 or 3 or ,on high end models, USB C.  When buying a external storage drive there are three option:

1- USB HDD

2- USB SSD

3- Network drive

I tend to stick with USB HDDS as they have tells when they are about to die, but are more likely to be effected by ware and tear due to the moving parts, theoretically SSD's may last longer if you never safety remove your devices but I don't really want to test that. If you where going to be using them with a laptop in theory the SSD would draw less power there for increasing battery life. A network drive would probably be the most convent and the lest draining on a laptop batter, as its connected to the mains. They are also really easy to increase the storage of, as you can just put another drive into the enclosure, something that you can't do with most USB drives. I would probably go for the network drive or HDD myself.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
