This week I am getting a quarterly bonus in my paycheck from work. I am thinking about using that along with selling my current GTX 1070 and getting a 1080ti. Do you guys think it would be worth it?

EDIT: The resolution I play at is 1440p so GPU upgrade would make an impact on my gaming performance.

There are wide ranging rumors on next gen nvidia cards from Q1 next year through Q3 so wanted to get your opinion. Here is an article I recently read from tweaktown on the next gen cards: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/59816/nvidias-next-gen-geforce-teased-ampere-unveil-2018/index.html

This is only a matter of opinion. I think that the difference between 1070 and the 1080ti is do not warrant the upgrade unless you are a avid gamer. If you are getting a new system, then I would go with the 1080ti

This is just my opinion

Not getting a new system. Already have a top end desktop, and I am an avid gamer who games and streams when not at work or sleeping.

Also, I play at 1440p, which would see a good upgrade in gaming performance for me to go to a 1080ti.

I would wait until nvidia releases their new cards. In my experience companies release their new tech stuff right after Christmas so you get a new component and then its like this new thing is more powerful than the item you just bought.

I agree. Wait for volta to drop.

Volta is not for gaming. Volta is for AI/Supercompute. So waiting for Volta to drop is an invalid answer.

Volta is a GPU architecture, am I wrong? Either way, I'm getting into data science, so if what you say is true, I'm happy. You mind filling me in?

Yeah, I read it. I'm interested in both Ampere and Volta now. Onto the point of this thread, I guess wait for Volta, since GTC is just 5-6 months away, and since you already have a GTX 1070, it's not that urgent anyway.

... you mean Ampere and not Volta right? We already went over this.... and if I dont do this now, I likely wont have the money or means to be able to do it then...

If I read the OP correctly. Pascal is the GTX 1080 architecture  and Volta is the server type card.

correct, and we are another ~6 months away from Ampere launching from the sounds of it.

If money isn't going to be available when AMPERE(lol) drops, wait for black friday and go for whatever GPU you want. You said you wanted a 1080ti, so wait, like, 1 week for black friday and get it.
