In short:

It sits at 4.7ghz @ 1.32v

Cooler is Neptun 240M in push pull config.

I can't seem to cool it above 1.35v, even tho I have the best thermal paste I could find and very good airflow over the rad.

What's wrong? TP has been applied in February this year. Is it time to repaste?

P95 throttles it even at 4.6, even with fans @100% and ambient temps of 17C.

Handbrake results in 75-80C temp spiking up to 85 at moments. (fans @1000rpm and pump @80% speed)

I don't think my cooling is insufficient. What is it?

Thanks for advice

That sounds more or less normal to me! As a general rule, keep temps as low as possible, but ultimately, voltages are what kill a CPU (long before reasonable temperatures do). Reasonable temperatures at max load/ high load over long periods of time are anywhere from 80-85c according to most sources. If you're in that bracket or lower, then no need to worry. Again, if you CAN get temperatures lower, then you're even better off!

Cheers!

Same fans same RPM? Try going Push only

But you might need to check your LLC settings and put a fan over your VRM if it's throttling.

Did you manually overclock?

I've tried locating LLC settings on my Asus Z170A MB, but I can't find them. HWinfo shows no voltage drops even at higher voltages. Don't know what that about, but I've pretty much given up. . I posted a topic here, nobody knew how to help me.

The problem isn't the MB, it's the cooling. I can't cool it. And I think that LLC is fu*ked up, I think there is voltage drop even if it's not reporting it..

my case flow is above average, I have plenty airflow in there. VRMs are alright.

If you don't have LLC your motherboard could be sending just a static rather high voltage which is causing your high temps

You probably want to back off on your voltage in that case

I've watched the video.. I understand how it works. I know.

The main problem is cooling. I have a 200W+ cooler here and It can't cool a 100W chip. Even at 4.7ghz@1.32v OC, this AIO with push pull config should be keeping it cool. I'm looking into it. I'll probably repaste it..

I don't believe delidding the 6700K is as big of a deal as the 7700K, likely not worth it to spend any money there.

I mean really just back off your OC to like 4.5ghz, is the performance difference really going to be noticeable?

Meant manual in case you were using an Auto OC feature that was killing your CPU lol

I'll just repaste the IHS.. won't delid.

At 4.5ghz, I can run 1.24v, which makes it really easy to cool. below 65C most of the time. At full load.

Sounds like the easy solution then.

I really like my 4.7ghz OC tho. And I bought the AIO for that.

Well, nobody really answered anything for me, as usual.

thanks for the effort anyways.

It's not a simple thing you can just answer, tons of factors at play here, mostly is probably the motherboard if you don't have LLC settings, or can't measure the voltage with a multi-meter or something directly.

Okay. Now concentrate for a bit. FOCUS. you with me? good!

I said that the main problem is that I can't seem to cool a 100W chip with a 200W AIO cooler. And I asked what that about. And I asked if it needs repasting considering TP is 10 months old. Leave LLC. Its not even in the original post. It's just something you mentioned along the way and I said I've done my bit of research and it doesn't work for me.

Can we move on now? Thank you.

Are you sure that, that's what it's outputting? 100W? You motherboard could be doing voltage spikes for some reason, your software voltage readings may not be accurate. Do you have access to a current clamp so you can measure the CPU power line?

If repasting doesn't fix the issue, then you have a lot more places to look for a solution naturally.

In Aida64/Handbrake, I get 100W peek power consumption at 4.7ghz@1.32v

In prime tho, things are different. The best clock I could get out of my chip was 4.6ghz@1.36v, and It pulled like.. 140-150W

Nowhere near that 200W or even greater as you showed it.

point is, even at 100W cooling it is a pain even with this AIO.

With mentioned P95 test, I ran every fan at max with unrestricted airflow. And it was sitting on 95C. So there you go.
