Questions about Makerbot 2

Quick question about the makerbot 2: if I buy a 2x extruder, is it compatible with the 2 board? It looks like there's enough connectors, but I'm a novice in the area. Also, would 3rd party extruders and nozzles be compatible with the makerbot 2, and if so how can I tell?
