my isp is slowly installing fiber in my area. Now that winter is here it has come to a stop for the construction and laying the new cable.

I got wondering, how future proof is the network? I know the hardware might need to change but the cable itself?

I don't know the full detail but I know they have fiber splitters throughout the city. 1 main feed coming in and 32 coming out. I guess if they ever need to run 32 separate lines back to the office it should be easy to do.

Would this setup handle more than 1 gpbs? possibly 10gbps if all 32 feeds were getting that?

Looks like they're using a passive optical network.

10 Gbps downlinks are theoretically possible with 10G-PON technology.
