Long story short I have a client that has an 860K CPU that can't be overclocked due to cooling, budget and motherboard chipset limitations. They currently have an RX 460 and playing at 1080p. In some games they have to tune down the settings/resolution to get playable FPS. They have little budget to spend on so I was recommending to get a GTX 1060 3GB while selling the RX 460 in the process for extra cash. The 1060 3GB seems to be the most optimal upgrade as AMD counterparts prices are everywhere due to cryptocurrency. However R9 280/X & 380/X seem to be nicely priced but they are slower than the 1060 3GB, it's still an upgrade from the RX 460 though. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure how accurate the gamegpu benchmarks are but the FX-4300 (similar to 860K) seem to start choking anything the same or above a GTX 1060 3GB levels of performance. Here's examples of modern demanding titles. I know some of these games aren't optimized but it gives the worst case scenario which is helpful.

The 860K will bottleneck a 3GB 1060 in some games, especially non-overclocked. The top card paired with that CPU should be an R9 380X to avoid the CPU bottlenecking, but getting an RX 570/1060 3GB should be fine too despite a bottleneck in some games like BF1, AC:Origins, The Witcher 3 etc.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

I see thanks for the input I'll look out for those.

860K and GTX 1060 3GB for 1080p gaming still makes sense...i would do it.

At the same time i would advise the client that this should be the last upgrade done to that system, next time he need more performance

i would sell the system as is to me most offering and build a new one.
