Monitor/TV Calibration

Go to solution Solved by ACEHACK,

well unless you want serious calibration (i use spyder 5 express + displaycal/argyl software) use http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ for basic calibration and yes no matter you play games or photo edit color calibration is just essential if you want to use the most out of your screen

Hi. So I'm almost done setting up my mini-home/gaming theater/PC in my room. I'm just waiting for my speakers to be delivered.

Question, do you guys calibrate your monitors/TV? And, how?

Normally I just use the out-of-the-box settings and tbh I'm pretty much satisfied with it.

However, after some googling. It seems I can further improve picture AND gaming quality if I did calibrate my monitor.

Do you have any resources I can use or read?

BTW, I have a LG 27MP68VQ-P (27" IPS) and an AOC M2060SWD (20" TN).

Obviously I mainly use the LG for gaming and watching and the AOC for surfing the web.

For the shows/movies I watch. They're generally BluRay 1080p or Amazon 1080p from *cough cough* "sources"

I'm using VLC temporarily but will switch to Kodi after I get a decent internet connection.

We also have an old 40" Sony Bravia TV in the living room so calibration resource/steps for that would be nice as well.

yep so I tried the multiple calibration tests available suggested from Linus' Techquickie video, I still have problems with calibrating my 2 very different monitors to show similar colors.

I have a 20" MVA and a 27" IPS display and my eyes hurt when switching between the 2 monitors.

I found someone offering a calibration service (Spyder5 Express) for around 10$ per display. I might try that instead of just eyeballing.

good but i should warn you that the reason i dont use the spyder 5 og software is because its in accurate ask that person to do it with displaycal=argyl which is not only free and opensource but way better than the spyder 5 software hope this helps

noted. thanks for the headsup. I'm actually still studying the monitors myself. like what to setup pre-calibration. I understand some hardware adjustments must be made before using a calibrator to get better accuracy.

So after some reading, I might just go with the Spyder software. as it seems the displaycal calibration take hourssss haha. Anyhow, I'm not going to do any serious work with the monitors anyways. just gaming/movies. and more importantly, I just want the color-reproduction on both monitors to be at least similar.

BTW, if i'm currently on builtin Intel HD Graphics 630, and I did the calibration now. And then later added a GPU and plugged the monitors there, would that affect the color-reproduction? Should I re-calibrate?

i dont think you would need recalibration if you just load in your calibrated profile but if you can re calibrate then better and i know display cal can take between 1-4 hrs but the results are accurate and in my experience when i tried to calibrate using its default software every time there was either a red tint or very blue tint colors
