UPGRADE SUGGESTIONS?

My friend's 'gaming' PC is severely outdated, and he would like a bit more capable of a machine.  This is the EXACT build he has now (prebuilt link).  He has $500 to upgrade it with.  We are going to go to Microcenter to buy new parts-I was thinking a Ryzen based system with a 1050 or 1050Ti.  

 

Question-what can we keep and reuse?  I was thinking the case, maybe PSU, and the storage.

  If he reused the storage, would it have to be formatted?

Any suggestions on what to buy?

Hey libman,

for upgrading to ryzen you'll need a new motherboard and new ddr4 ram (the old one is ddr3 which is not supported by ryzen). Since the System doesn't have an ssd yet i'd buy one for the os to run on. Here is my suggestion:

On the website you linked, I can't find any information on the psu that is in use in your friends pre built system. I guess it'll be alright tho.
