What to upgrade first

Bush Badger

Hello, I am currently trying to upgrade my PC part by part. I don't know what to upgrade first. I have

two options, upgrade the CPU combo (highlighted in blue) or upgrade the GPU first. I know GTX 1080ti

is really an overkill for 1080p gaming but I really want to put my 144hz monitor to use as I dont have g-sync.

Also PUBG is one of the reason as currently my PC gets only 60-80FPS and it stutters and lags way too much,

with having 80FPS feeling like 50FPS and when it hits 60 FPS it feels like 20FPS, I know the game's optimization

is not perfect but I am sure the new PC build will perform better than this current one. Also the system has

been slightly damaged during transit so I might as well upgrade.

*note*

the cost of a GTX 1080ti is roughly equaled to a new Mobo + CPU combo + RAM here in Japan.

TL;DR

Want to upgrade new PC, CPU + Mobo first or GPU first?

4790k + GTX 980TI  ---> 4790k + GTX1080TI

then

4790k + GTX1080TI ---> 8700k +GTX 1080TI

                                 OR

4790k + GTX 980TI ---> 8700k + GTX 980TI

then

8700k + GTX 980TI ---> 8700k + GTX 1080TI

You could get good money for that 980ti if you sell it somewhere. I would go with the 1080ti and plus you get the destiny 2 bundle deal. Plus intel plans on releasing more cpus in a few months and that processor really isn't that outdated yet

GPU first, no question. ALWAYS GPU first when you have an i7, just be sure you have the CPU overclocked.
