Alright, call me an idiot, but I need some help?

I'm very new to the mesh networking scene, and I'm considering investing in a set of 3 Google WiFi devices for a mesh network.

My question is this:

When all three are set up (without interconnection with an Ethernet cable) do two of the three act as repeaters, essentially halving my internet speed?

Or do all three somehow magically act as independent routers, allowing me full speed on all three..?

Speeds on mesh networks are... interesting. I'm sure LTT has mentioned it in a router review, but if not, Matt Moniz did a review of a mesh network and did speed tests by each AP. Yes, two of the three are essentially repeaters, but they work a bit more elegantly than third party repeaters, only showing up as one SSID. Being right next two one of the two APs will not to be as fast as being by the one acting as a router.

Space is pretty awesome.
