I have hit a point in my life where I realize I just can't let botting go on this certain mmo. So heres my problem BEM (blue eye macro) doesn't work on W8 which I run atm and I can install W7 but if I do that I lose all my data and thats a good 100-150gbs.... So not happening but I got 2 hdds, 1 (300gb) is used for W8 and my other stuff. The other one is used for my personal stuff (80gb)... So I thought about it and I got only a few options that I can think of and I was wondering how this will impact my performance.

1. take my personal stuff and move them to my W8 drive and install it on my 80gb hdd.

2. install W7 on my 300gb drive and work it as a dual boot.

3. deal with it. I can't think of anything else as atm I can't get a new HDD even if I were to take it from my spare not working ps3 I don't have the connectors for it. So what would be the best option 1 or 2 unless you got other ideas.

NVM I found the answer I need Sorry for wasting anyones time

Really getting another 1 or 2 TB HDD is the best thing to do. But I completely understand if you just don't gave the money to shell out right now. You really haven't provided enough information on either hard drive for me to tell you the performance. Is that 80 GB one that you salvaged from your PS3? If so that is a 5400RPM drive and should NEVER be used as a boot drive (it really is that slow). So now I'm assuming the 300GB drive is 7200 RPM and thats the one you should install windows 7 on. You don't really have the space to install windows 8 so I would knock off that option.

What you can do is using another windows PC use the built in partition manager to shrink the ntfs partition on the 300 GB drive then make another partition and install Win 7 to that. Then slowly move the data to the new partition and leap frog making one partition bigger and shrinking the other until you have it all on the new Win 7 boot partition. If you don't have another machine with windows or a kind enough friend you can always use a linux live cd, SystemRescueCD should have Gparted (the program you can use under linux to do this).

Really the easiest option is get a new internal drive or external drive. Internal drives can be purchased cheaply on Newegg.com You can get a 500 GB HDD for under $60 and maybe $5 for a molex to sata power and a sata 6Gb cable. If you want an external drive again Newegg is a great option but you might also find your local costco has some great deals.

Happy Hunting!

I think it was a 5400 rpm drive... though I am not sure as it was in my older pc from 2004ish maybe 5 or 6. So its old, As for the idea that was something I had not thought of, making a partition is a great idea do you have an idea of how much space I should give it as I only have 1 purpose for it and I already run windows 8. Its the reason I need to use windows 7 atm for BEM. Also is there any way to find out what my 80gb drive is without opening up my case as I use it as a stand. As for linux I tried that once it was the worst experience I ever had. Everything denied my access and nothing could be used without the computer permission. (Shivers) Worst computer experience EVER.

Just remember with linux you don't get a "Click okay to destroy everything." Since it's used so much on servers you have to login as an admin to do important stuff. And the things you can do with it are very powerful so it's worth learning for situations like this.

And for a comfortable install of win 7 (even just using a few programs) You want a minimum of 32 gb. So I suppose you could just dual boot them if you really wanted to.

And google the model number of that old computer, it may be on the manufacturers website.

Sure, I like Linux Mint alot. My favorite distribution even though sometimes they have a few bugs. If not Ubuntu is quite good. If you want you can install it on a USB drive that is 2 GB or larger. It's fun but when you're starting out you get confused alot. And if it was custom built that means your only option is to open it up and look at the sticker on the drive.
