Power Supply questions

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Oooooohhhh.....  I only saw the standard mounting holes.  Not the tabs.

You used to be able to buy a bracket that would add those tabs to any ATX PSU.

Sorry... I'm just not a fan of adapters.  Pins are the weakest part of any PSU DC cable and adding an adapter is just one more potential point of failure.

so I was able to get my hands on an old supermicro server, the server wouldnt post but I was able to get some parts out of it and I wanted to ask about the power supply
its an Ablecom SP650-RP, its rated for 650w continuous usage, my question is because it came out of a server it doesnt have connectors like PCIE and SATA would it be ok to use adapters? i know molex to sata adapters are fine but what about PCIE molex to sata adapters? I have dual molex to 6 pin adapters and I was thinking about picking up dual molex to 8pin adapters(for a GPU upgrade i want to do), would these be safe to use since the power supply is a good quality one and it has the wattage rated for it

I was possibly gonna migrate my desktop into the supermicro case to take advantage of the hotswapable drive cages for mass storage and id like to be able to use this power supply

my current power supply is a CX650m and my system specs are R5 1400@3.7ghz Asus Prime B350 Plus, 16gb Pacific Sun DDR4 2400(running at 2933 16-18-18-36), WD Blue 2tb, 2x 480gb PNY SSD

Why not just use the CX650M?

the power supply is specific to the case, it has standard mounting holes on the power supply itself but the case doesnt have standard power supply mounting holes

EDIT

Here is a pic of the case, and power supply. The power supply has mounting holes on the top of it's housing so it can be mounted in this case but it also has standard power supply mounting holes so I can use this in another case if I felt like it.
