Hello all,

Today I have bought a new after market cooler for my Ryzen 5 1600. I bought the Arctic Freezer 33 TR. It's designed for Threadripper but supports also AM4 sockets so I popped it on my Ryzen 5 1600 on the MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard. When I fired up the PC, temperatures compared to the stock Wraith Spire cooler went down by 10-15C, so I was happy about that. But when I tested overclocking to 3.9 Ghz with Cinebench R15, the stock and overclock score I got was less than what I had before putting the new cooler in place. Score went down by as much as 200 points on multithreaded performance.

I did have the Ryzen Balanced power profile selected, auto fan curves all around and a 3.9Ghz overclock @ 1.35V. System was stable but the score barely made it over 1120 when previously, on stock settings with old cooler I was getting above 1190-1250 (OC) in Cinebench.

So I'm wondering what the cause of such a performance drop in spite of lower temperatures from the new cooler could be. I had a bit of an issue applying thermal paste to the cooler, I may have added more than necessary, but not extremely much.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
