TL;DR

Anyone have before and after temps, after upgrading from an igpu?

I'm looking to gather some data on whether or not upgrading from an igpu to a dedicated card has a major impact on overall system temperatures. I've tried googling it, searching various forums, and just generally asking around. But no one seems to have any hard data. Like at all. No one seems to care about the temperatures before and after, under the same work load. I'm looking to upgrade my system with a gpu, but no increase the work load. I just want to lower the overall temps in the case.

My build right now:

and I'm looking to put in:

MSI RX 550 2gb

I do plan on removing the fan assembly due to space restrictions. I am building inside an xbox 360.

So far my temps are in the 30's for general productivity and hd video. But even playing older games (Halo CE, Witcher 1) I'm seeing temps go up to the 60's. Newer games on low to medium settings play well enough, with the temps going even higher, into the 70's at times. Now I know these are all within operating tolerances, but I don't like the sound of the fans spinning up to compensate. Breaks the illusion of playing on an actual 360.

This ended up being longer that I had planned.

I would suggest getting a new fan assuming you're using the stock intel one.

There are tons of options for low profile cooling, more silent and effective than the stick cooler.

It'll be more affordable than getting a dedicated GPU, but that's also assuming you're happy with the gaming performance your integrated graphics offer. iGPU does make your CPU slightly hotter, if you're happy with your current performance I suggest a cooler.

If NOT satisfied with your performance I suggest both.

I suggest both because I'm afraid a dedicated GPU won't do much for silence but add more noise.

More performance while gaming of course, but it'll be noisier.

I can personally recommend Noctua L9i, used it myself in smaller mITX builds!

Nothing like an X360 but still! :)
