Can you have 1 8gb ram stick and 1 4gb ram?

I'm upgrading my PC cause I want a new pc to run games better, but then someone told me I can put the GPU I want in this PC, so I'm upgrading this one instead to save money on parts, so I have 4gb ram ddr3 rn, but I want some more RAM, but I was wondering if you can use a 8gb ram stick and a 4gb ram stick or if you NEED to use the same amount of ram per stick.

Yes, you can if your mobo support 8gb sticks.

Beware though your PC may run the sticks in single channel. For a budget PC, don't worry about the performance hit from doing this, put the additional cash into a better GPU.

I'm getting a better GPU first, the RAM is just another thing I could add if I want, which I want.

Yep, you can mix and match capacities, speeds, etc... as long as the motherboard supports them.

Your ram will run at the slowest speed stick , and the same will be applied for the timming of the ram
