Windows Phone to Android

So I've been a long term Windows Phone/Mobile user (yeah I'm a sucker for letting MS burn me!) and with the recent news of MS essentially abandoning the platform I'm ready to jump ship.

 

First off I'm not a complete Android novice, I've used it before I know pre-Nougat pretty well but I've never messed around with launcher's, skins or custom ROMs. My first question is just if anyone else whose gone through a similar transition has any tips/advice. And following from that if anyone knows of a decent WP style launcher on Android (not MSLauncher, that's weird).

 

I'd also really appreciate some recommendations for a mid-range handset, something in the Xperia XA1 to Galaxy A5 range, that's the sort of price I can get with my contract.

 

Final point to mention, yes I've considered iPhone and it just isn't for me, I kind of like a slightly broken platform

Not that I know of. Haven't come across any Android user deliberately making things difficult for themselves with a launcher/interface from a failed OS.

My mother uses an A5 2017 and it's a pretty cool phone, I use an s8+ but actually considered the A5 as well. (She still loves her phone and I'm trying to get rid of mine so take that for what you will)
