so basically i got a new build but im not sure if the powersupply is good enough to handle future upgrades like a 1070, parts list: i7 7700k gtx 1060 6gb evga 500w w1 1tb wd 7200rpm nzxt s340 elite msi z270 gaming m3 16gb ddr4 vengence lpx 3000, do i need a better powersupply? because im probably upgrading in 3-4 years

you could be fine, but it depends how gpu power efficiency is in the future really ....

 

if a 3 year future 1370 is out, it could have gone really high in temp and perf, or there could be a breakthrough and get amazing perf and lower power 

 

id say you will need a new one, based on the only info you've given is a 500w psu, which doesnt let us know the quality of the psu, so kinda hard to say. 

 

650+ w you'd probs be safe,

Yes, you should get a new power supply, because the one you currently have is 80+ white certified. I would recommend getting something like a 600w 80+ gold PSU.
