Every year for my birthday I get $200 or so, last year I build a good gaming pc I think but its a little low on specs, but it can still game. This year I was wondering to build a new gaming pc or just go with an oldish MacBook on eBay. And yes I know you cant game on a MacBook, that not what I will need it for. Thanks

I would like just a mac just to play around with mac os and just an everyday laptop, Core 2 quad q660 8Gb ddr2 GTX 550 TI

I'd get a laptop, but not a macbook. I'd also just buy a new/used GPU.

Get a chromebook

IMO Chromebooks are a very niche market. They are for people who do EVERYTHING online and always have a good connection. Besides that, they are pretty useless IMO.

if you do get a old macbook get one that you can open up so later you can put a SSD in it.

macOS and 5400 rpm drive does not play well together... unless you go with older version (mavericks and more previous ones)

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
