1080 Ti Poseidon high temps

My 1080 ti Poseidon from Asus is running much hotter and louder than it should. I sent it back and they said there was no problem with it.

In my testing, open air sub-20C ambient it reaches up to the temp limit of 84C while running at 80-90% fan speed (LOUD)

According to the place where i bought it they got 72C and said you barely heard the card.

What could cause this? I have tried different PCIe slots and a different PCIe powercable and connector on my Corsair RM850.

My temps and fan speed were monitored using GPU Tweak 2 and HWMonitor.

I need help ASAP.

Thanks in advance

Edit: Im on air, havent gotten my watercooling stuff yet

FIXED: The cards fucking cooler isn't screwed in properly... Putting a little pressure on the cooler towards the pcb drops temps and fan speed dow to the right levels

i heard a few people say the poseiden on air isnt much better than a reference cooler, they might be using it on open air test bench and you might have it in a case which would explain the temp increase

As i said, I ran my testing open air and its almost maxing out its fans

Then all the reviewers should get the same results as me... But they all get 74C, i cant even get close to that even if I use 100% fan speed

So the card came loose? And you bought it new? As much as I always like that series I don’t see the point of them much. Comprimise being made either way.

So.. i do have 2 of these cards and have the same issue with one of the cards.

If i am not mistaken this is a problem with this card for more than me.

And now for the solution... lay your case on its side and see the temps go down :)

There is a little problem with the heatsink contact the chips on the card, and just by pushing it up a little bit in the end it will make contact.

Both my cards is running cryptomining... but in SLI because i also like to use the machine for gaming.

Primary card (with flaw) is running 75°C @ 100% load. if i remove my wedge between the two card so it "sag's" it jumps right up to 84°C

Secondary card is running at 66°C @ 100% load.

Also i am running custom waterloop. Card did not get any colder with water cooling than when it was aircooled. So that was my first clue that something was not right.

I have already been talking to the distributor that will take it back to fix/replace it.
Let me know if this helps or not :)
