Blender is one of the most feature rich free ones available. However, if you're just wanting to do a simple model, SketchUp may be better suited as it's more simple.

Blender is the most commonly used free program. its great and pretty easy to learn / use.

for rooms and others. well my uncle (who design houses and sells plans) uses SketchUp from google. wich works great too. and is free. you can search for textures, pre-made stuff and others with it too.
