Intel Optane

So i'm still very confused on what Intel optane is. The main three answers I've gotten is as follows

1) It's a disk drive performance booster. If this is correct can it be used to boost a raid 1 array with two drive?

2) It acts as more memory 

3) Its a small captivity ssd

If anyone has a proper answer it would be much appreciated.

It is a cache ssd for other drives to speed up data access

it wont make much difference if you have a SSD

 

its just cache for your HDD

I've had so many seagates go bad on me over the years... not one WD.

 

then I realized you linked an 15TB SAS SSD...

If you use it like a SSD, you should. Bare in mind it is expensive per capacity over conventional SSDs though. Only worth considering if you have to have the highest random read speeds, where it does perform about an order of magnitude faster than even high end SSDs.

I'm actually wanting to buy the Nytro SAS SSD Series (the 3330 model) but i dont even know if they are released but i so wish i could get these 15 TB ones with a raid one array
