Hi,

I am a programmer and my macbook pro mid 2009 is dying. I am willing to spend around 1000 usd on a laptop but there are too many out there to decide. I need a laptop that can run vm's, edit videos and a bunch of other things. I would love to get a mac because build quality and battery life is really important to me as well. I don't really game that much, but I would like something that can at least do casual gaming. Here are a few options that I found:

Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming - 1100$

7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Quad Core (6MB Cache, up to 3.8 GHz)

16GB, 2400MHz, DDR4; up to 32GB

128GB Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive (Storage)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5

74 Whr, 6-Cell Battery (Integrated)

15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display

Correct, old Alienwares have a mediocre quality
Dell 7567 is a solid choice, however if you don't game much and need a 4k display you can get the older Dell 7559/7566 with 4k IPS panel

Desktop specs:

Spoiler

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

Montech Century 850W Gold Tecware Nexus Air (Black) ATX Mid Tower
